Maserati 250F Oulton Park 1955 – Stirling Moss This has been recreated from the original Silver Gelatin Photograph which I own. Sir Stirling Moss, seen here exiting Cascades at Oulton Park, Cheshire on 24th September 1955. A ‘roar’ of red and green cars lined up on the grid. The front row consisted of Castellotti, Musso, Moss and Hawthorn. However, it was Moss’s car that entered Lodge Corner in the lead, on the first lap, much to the surprise and delight of the crowd. After just 10 laps Moss was showing a commanding lead of 9.8 seconds . Moss went on to set a new lap record of 1m. 52.3 with a new lap speed of 87.81 mph. Moss continued to thrill the crowd throwing up clouds of dust as he clipped the verges of the track. Moss went on to win the Daily Dispatch Oulton Park International Gold Cup Meeting in his Maserati 250F, in a race time of 1h 44m 5.4sec. Moss, aged just 25, was starting to write motoring history, having just won the British Grand Prix on 16th July 1955 in a Mercedes. Photograph taken by R.A.C. Chief Scrutineer Fred Matthews.
