Player’s Navy Cut Cigarettes ~ – Christmas Advert Circa 1928 Unfortunately, I have not been able to track any information about the artist. My father, Alfie, worked for a former advertising agency, based in Baker Street, London, as a copywriter and photographer. He travelled extensively and met many interesting people. His specific areas of interest were motoring and aviation. After his death, I discovered boxes of photographs and agency “mock ups” for advertisements. I know that he was a competent compositor. However, I believe that a proportion of these “mock-ups” were not entirely his work. I also know that the agency, for whom he worked, did not have accounts with some of these companies. A real mystery! I have taken these “mock ups” and de-constructed them, scanning and manipulating in both Photoshop & Corel Painter. Some contain references that I have been unable to trace. Therefore, it is very possible that some of these never reached the print or publication stage. They should therefore just be viewed as pieces of artwork, rather than company history.
