SCHWEPPES GINGER ALE ADVERT – Circa 1936 - 'Lapis Lazuli' William Henry Barribal, artist and lithographer, born in 1874 died in 1952 aged 78. William produced a series of images for First World War recruitment posters. From the 1920s to 1930s he was commissioned by Schweppes for an advertising campaign. Shown here is one example 'Lapis Lazuli' circa 1936. During the same period, William also produced posters and playing cards for Waddingtons. These cards are still very popular and collectable. Using his bold Art Deco style, he produced posters for the LNER (London & North Eastern Railway). William’s work also featured in many prestigious magazines including Vogue. William’s wife, Gertrude Louisa Fannie Pitt, was the model featured predominantly in his art. I restored this advert from an advertising agency “mock up”.
