“Don’t Forget My Ticket” British Rail Poster circa 1950 John Francis Bee, born 1895 died 1959. John was born in Wolverhampton and he studied in Europe and the Near East (Ottoman Empire and the Balkans). He was a successful illustrator and designer, producing posters and publicity material for Norvic Shoe Company, London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railway (BR). During the 1940s he also painted several pictures that were used as carriage prints by the LNER and by BR (Western Region). Bee lived in Loughborough in Leicestershire and in Liverpool. My father, Alfie, worked for a former advertising agency, based in Baker Street, London, as a copywriter and photographer. He travelled extensively and met many interesting people. His specific areas of interest were motoring and aviation. After his death, I discovered boxes of photographs and agency “mock ups” for advertisements. I know that he was a competent compositor. However, I believe that a proportion of these “mock-ups” were not entirely his work. I also know that the agency, for whom he worked, did not have accounts with some of these companies. A real mystery! I have taken these “mock ups” and de-constructed them, scanning and manipulating in both Photoshop & Corel Painter. Some contain references that I have been unable to trace. Therefore, it is very possible that some of these never reached the print or publication stage. They should therefore just be viewed as pieces of artwork, rather than company history. Restored by Charlie Poole. I really hope that you will enjoy your new print. Image size A3 **Digital Download Only (See Copyright & Terms & Conditions Section) No Physical Product will be dispatched.
