Take Your Dog by Rail Poster circa 1935 This picture seems to have an unattributed artist, published by “The Big Four” Railways, namely G.W.R., LMS, LNER, and S.R. in the 1930’s. The image has been skilfully produced to show the Terrier waiting patiently, guarding the suitcases. Unconditional love, please don’t forget me. This poster has been recreated by me with some subtle additions. I hope that you enjoy this image on your wall. In my opinion this is possibly by Mabel Gear a Suffolk watercolour artist who was famous for her dog illustrations. Mabel studied at the Colchester School of Art and by the early 1900s, she had gained a good reputation for her animal paintings. She particularly enjoyed painting dogs and produced advertisements for Black & White Scottish Whiskey. They depicted playful images of two Scottish Terriers, one black and one white. Her paintings also featured in postcards, greetings cards as well as in books. If you know the history of this picture please e-mail me.
