She studied at Colchester School of Art and in Bushey. She was known for her animal designs for postcards, greeting cards, book illustrations and advertisements and exhibited animal pictures from 1920 to 1929. Mabel was the main breadwinner after her husband's premature death in 1944 and turned her attention to commercial contracts, of which this was one. The most well-known of her contracts feature Scottish Terriers with black and white collars for Black & White Scotch Whisky. Restored by Charlie Poole.
